Checked BIOS and could find nothing wrong (BIOS was updated 6-8 months back without problems). Problem started after I updated/ installed a few programs - the first was installing the trial version of Intervideo's HomeTheater (followed by uninstalling). It looks to me the quality is the same as viewing the VHS tape. Thanks for your suggestion. Have you tried Nero 6 burning software? No, I haven't made the switch to Nero 6 yet. I am still on the version 5 that works for me, but I only use it to burn the files my authoring software produce.

(3) When you burn an ISO, how can you direct it to another hard drive? Nero 6 Burning ROM seems to force ISO images to go to a CD or DVD, but won't let you save to a HDD. At least I can't figure out how. It does let you save a "hard drive backup" to another HDD, but apparently not an ISO image.

Learn the difference between "b" and "B". Good hard drives, USB2, firewire, etc can easily do x4 recording with = dvd. Better have a damn good computer to multitask. I built a computer just = to rip and burn. On subsequent testing it seems my cheap b grade media although 4x rated don't work to well after a 4x burn
